Week 2
Well, it has been a long week for Billy *(not his real name). We did have some nausea and diarrhoea, not surprising but also not desirable. On the positive side, it also shows the drugs being active in his body. He is showing no signs of his cancer, it has responded nicely so far to the treatment.
Unfortunately we had to delay his chemo this week, as his white cell count (blood) was a bit low, meaning he was more likely to gain an infection. His mum is holding up well, as is Billy. They are enjoying all the time they have together.
Our aim is to give him the best quality of life for as long as possible. Our goal is also not for him to be or feel sick, either from the treatment or the cancer. This is one of the few cancers that in some cases do respond and can be cured. Although the odds are against us, we remain positive and supportive.
I think the reality of the challenge and with some diarrhoea and nausea, have hit home for his family. They remain strong, and we are there to give them strong support. We feel they are one branch of our family tree.
Next week we are looking at a simpler dose, which hopefully won't cause any issues at all.
We are thinking of you all the time guys.
